Until now, this place was one of my best kept secrets. Chef Oreste Casorati has over 30 years of experience delighting gastro-philes around the globe.
Chef Oreste creates unique menus every week to keep his diners taste buds on point. Below is an excerpt from La Buca’s website with a little background on what this quaint, intimate restaurant draws it’s inspiration from:
The restaurant’s owner is Mr. Oreste Casorati. After he finished studying at the State Hotel School in Milan, in 1967 he began to work in the best hotels of the city, but because of his peasant origin he chose to work in family restaurants (‘Trattoria’) where the homely cooking and the family ambience suited to his origin. But at that time Mr. Oreste aimed at gaining experience also abroad so that in 1975 he decided it was time to try working abroad and for 7 years he worked in the Arab Countries (Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Algeria and Turkey) getting a great experience.
In 1983 he went to the always-loved Thailand, and he settled in Chiang Mai where he opened a musical instruments shop and in the evenings he used to sing in the coffee shops by fulfilling also his passion for music.
Back to Europe in the following years he worked in several restaurants in Spain, Paris, Austria, Yugoslavia and Italy.
In 2000 when his mother died, he decided to move forever to Thailand to fulfill his dream to have his own restaurant. Now it has been 9 years since he opened the Restaurant “La Buca” in Sukhumvit Soi 1. He started quietly without any particular acquaintance or contact, and with just his passion and determination combined with the good food and the family ambience he succeeded in getting his own space. The dream came true!
In 2010 La Buca Italian Restaurant receiving from Thailand Tatler Magazine the Award for the Best Restaurant for is exceptional cuisine and service.
The menu of the ‘La Buca’ Restaurant follows mostly the simple and the traditional cuisine of the Lombardy Region and some good taste from other Italian regions to please the different clients’ taste.
The menu, particularly changes every week, assuring a unique variety of dishes in Bangkok.
The hors d’oeuvres are simple and appetizing: we are suggesting a dish of sliced salami with grilled vegetables. The pasta is fantastic; you can taste every week three different kinds of homemade pasta with seven different sauces and this wide choice of sauces makes it impossible to have a suggestion of which sauce is the best; just rely on your own taste.
Absolutely to try is homemade pasta Tagliatelle with Foie Grass, Porcini Mushrooms and Truffle. Mr. Oreste provide also a many different personal recipe tank’s to is 40 year experience and is fantasy.
The rice (‘risotto’) is a unique specialty: absolutely to try is the typical ‘risotto Milanese’ with saffron and marrowbone, a really appetizing dish.
Finally the menu includes also meat, fish and dessert also changed every week: you should try the ‘tiramisu’ and “la Buca” cake.
There is also a wide choice of wines of the best Italian cellars.
Mr. Oreste is suggesting simple and natural food: all the typical Italian products are imported as a guarantee for the quality.
That’s it! If you need to call the owner, call it ‘Oreste’ and not ‘Chef’ because of his friendliness: he will treat you as a long time friend.
Thank you Mr. Oreste for your decision to open a restaurant in Bangkok, now we know where to taste the real Italian Cuisine!
If you’re out for an intimate, world class Italian dining experience (to include a wide selection of Italian wines), that won’t break the bank and promises to provide an experience you won’t find anywhere else in Thailand, La Buca is the place for you!
